The global programme Green Innovation Centre (GIC), implemented in 15 countries has the objective "in selected rural areas, innovations in the agriculture and agri-food sector have contributed to sustainable rural development". It is part of the special initiative "One World Without Hunger" launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2014.

  • The second phase of the overall programme is structured around 3 key modules
  •  Implementation of a local innovation system
  • Capacity development
  • And the promotion of sustainable agribusiness

The Mali component of the global programme, the GIC, is part of the Innovative Agriculture and Nutritional Food Security Cluster (AgrISAN) and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture. It is implemented in close collaboration with the National Directorate of Agriculture and its deconcentrated services (Regional Directorates of Agriculture, DRA).Its intervention areas are the regions of Kayes, Koulikoro, Sikasso, Ségou and Mopti.  Since January 2018, the GIC/Mali has been working in the Office du Niger area through the Project to support actors for the sustainable development of the rice value chain in the Office du Niger (PARIZON) co-financed by the European Union. The target groups of the GIC are all stakeholders involved in the different links of the rice, potato/vegetable gardening and mango value chains, with a particular focus on women and youth.
